navy + cream

Introducing…navy + cream!

I’m over the moon to have Elizabeth from navy + cream here this week for the Introducing series. When I first began reading blogs, a friend sent me hers and I was smitten and just so happy to have her (so if you haven’t checked it out, go for it)! Elizabeth is a Chicago blogger who writes about great fashion finds, her family and amazing recipes (have you seen her nutella pillows recipe, absolute perfection) also she and I have a mutual love for the super Whole Foods in Lincoln Park, if you’ve been you can understand!

Below I asked Elizabeth a few questions and she even provided us with her very own recipe, exciting!

Q. Where did your blog, navy + cream get its name from?
Hi Maria and Thread.The.Needle readers, thank you so much for having me, this is quite the honor! So here’s the little story on how I came up with the name “navy + cream”. When I first started my blog I planned to write solely about food. I also wanted to use the two initials of my nieces, Madeline and Catherine, in the title.  I settled on using “cream” to represent Catherine but couldn’t find a word that was just right for the “M”. I also realized I wanted to span a variety of topics like fashion and design, not just food. Navy is one of my favorite colors and thus, navy + cream was born.  The typeface is in lower case because I like the look of it & I’m trying to pull off an e.e. cummings move.

Elizabeth (R) and her sister!

Q.  What has been your most fun place to visit?
Hmmmmm, I’d have to say Greece. My sister and I took a trip there together, we went to Athens and also visited a couple of the islands – Mykonos and Santorini. It was absolutely beautiful with breathtaking views, amazing shopping, delicious food and kind people. I would love to go back!

Q.  In five years, what is a goal you hope to have achieved?
This is a great question! I think it’s so important as strong, independent women to have goals that we are always striving to attain. In five years I hope to own my own business [what exactly that business is, I’m not sure of yet, but I have some ideas up my sleeve…]. Check back in with me then to see how I’m doing. ;)

Q. Do you have a beauty or workout routine you would like to share?
Absolutely! Because I love to eat so much I have to balance it out with a dedicated workout routine. I’m a BIG fan of Bar Method (http://www.barmethod.com), it’s an unbelievable workout that changed my life (and my body). It’s an hour-long targeted body-sculpting workout that is a blend of yoga, pilates and dance conditioning. I first heard of it when a friend sent me a free class and I’ve been hooked ever since.  If there is a studio in your city please do yourself a favor and check it out!

Q. Do you have a special holiday memory or tradition?
We sure do, and it centers around food, go figure. Growing up as a half-Italian, on Thanksgiving and Christmas we always had the usual suspects – turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce  - as well as all the good Italian eats: lasagna, eggplant parmesan, stuffed peppers, Italian stuffing, stuffed artichokes, meatballs…  All made with a lot of love and with my mom’s homemade sauce. My mom is an amazing cook and she makes sure no one leaves the table hungry!

Great getting to know you, Elizabeth!

I know Elizabeth is a creative force and it looks like you have also that "force". It obvious in the format, focus and the fun in your blog.
May the "force" continue to be with you.
